Presenter: Stewart Bell, former Deputy Director General Mine Safety and Health, Queensland Commissioner for Mine Safety and Health and Royal Commissioner at the Pike River Mine Disaster Royal Commission.

Stewart has over 30 years’ experience in investing coal mine fires and explorations and is the former Deputy Director General Mine Safety and Health,  Queensland Commissioner for Mine Safety and Health and Royal Commissioner at the Pike River Mine Disaster Royal Commission. Stewart is a fellow of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists.

Underground coal mine disasters are thankfully infrequent happenings in Australasia with the last disaster in Queensland being Moura No 2 in 1994 and Pike River in New Zealand in 2010. What this means for the  Australian coal mining industry is that there are very few people working in the  industry at the moment who have any appreciation what happens when a coal mine explodes.  This webinar will explore the learnings and recommendations from the Pike River Royal Commission and create awareness in modern miners of what can go wrong and how to avoid a catastrophe.
