Passport and Visa Information

If you are planning a holiday visit or a short business trip to Australia, you will need to apply for either a visa or an ETA (Electronic Travel Authority). An ETA will let you spend up to three months in Australia.

From this site http://www.eta.immi.gov.au/ you can:

  1. Apply for an ETA
  2. Check the validity of an existing ETA

Important: changes to ETA eligibility from 27 October 2008

From 27 October 2008, European passport holders will have access to the new eVisitor service when applying online for authority to visit Australia.
These travellers will no longer be eligible to use the online ETA system from midnight Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT) 26 October 2008 (1 pm GMT 26 October 2008).
The introduction of the new eVisitor service does not affect the validity of existing ETAs or other visas held by visitors to Australia. If you hold a valid ETA you can still use that to travel to Australia after 27 October 2008.

Important: changes to ETA application processing from April 2008

From 21 April 2008, the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship is implementing changes to the ETA system. The department will continue to process most ETA applications instantly; however, in a small number of cases, some additional processing will be required. If your ETA cannot be issued immediately please check back in 12 hours to confirm whether your application has been successful. Please apply for your ETA as early as possible prior to travel to allow sufficient time for your application to be processed.

An eVisitor is designed for people who are outside Australia and want to visit Australia for tourism or business purposes.

Australian Immigration Laws are very strict; therefore check with your travel agent or nearest Australian Consulate. Last-minute visa applications run the risk of not being approved in time for the event, we urge you to organise your Visa well in advance.
