Jim Wallace is a Mineral Process Engineer with 29 years experience in the mineral processing industry mainly in base metals. For the last 9 years Jim has worked for himself under FTF Optimisation and became involved with dense medium separation for base metal ore pre concentration through the recent MacArthur River Expansion Project.

Using the MacArthur River plant as a case study, the webinar discusses the potential benefits of pre-concentrating ore through dense medium separation. It also looks at the ore properties that would make it susceptible to DMS and the required feed size to make pre concentration viable. Due to advances made in the Coal Industry, modern dense medium cyclone plant designs offer significantly lower capital cost and improved operability over previous installed plant. This may encourage participants to examine the possibility of ore pre-concentration more closely especially at initial plant design phase.
