Achieving Effective Risk Management In The Workplace: Learnings From Critical Incidents

Online Learning
Published in 2017

Presenter: Emeritus Professor Jim Galvin FAusIMM

The introduction and progressive improvement in risk-based health and safety management systems in Australian and many overseas workplaces over the last 25 years has contributed to major reductions in injuries, fatalities and financial losses. Nevertheless, there is some way to go, as highlighted by ongoing incidents and legal proceedings. That is not the time to discover that well intentioned risk assessment did not fully meet risk management standards.

Jim will present international examples of critical incidents to highlight the benefits of good risk assessment and the pitfalls associated with deficient risk assessment. The talk will conclude with a summary of the learnings that the audience should be able to draw from the these case studies and legal proceedings.
