Dr Grant Ballantyne is a research fellow in the Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre (JKMRC).  Energy efficient comminution has become his major research theme, and as such he is focussed on industry applications supported by fundamental theoretical understanding.  He has been involved in successful site-based industry research over the past eight years covering four continents and eight commodities. Grant is passionate about equipping the next generation of metallurgists with the intellectual tools they will need, through undergraduate lecturing, postgraduate supervision and professional development courses.  He has completed a Bachelor of Engineering (Metallurgy and Chemical) at UQ in 2007 and a Doctorate in Philosophy at the JKMRC in 2012.

Energy efficiency is becoming a major driver for innovation and improvements in the mining industry, and as comminution is typically the largest energy consumer on-site, this has become the focus of many investigations.  There are a number of metrics that can be used to investigate comminution energy efficiency, but the differences between them is not always clear, and it is hard to choose.  This webinar will explore this complex and confusing landscape with practical examples and potential solutions to reduce your site’s energy intensity.  You will leave the webinar with a number of tools that you can use to assess the comminution energy efficiency of your operations and some examples of previous success stories.
