Max Eden Memorial Bursary

This scholarship assists secondary students interested in starting a career in the minerals industry with course costs.

The Max Eden Memorial Bursary was established in the early 1990's by The AusIMM Far North Queensland Branch, to financially assist secondary students enrolling in Minerals related tertiary courses at University. It is designed to assist with the cost of technical publications in the transition from secondary to tertiary education.

The Bursary has been named in honour of the late Max Eden, who was a much loved committee member and character of the local AusIMM branch. As a qualified mining engineer he established a family operated alluvial tin operation in the Far North Queensland region following his early years with MIM Holdings Ltd. Unfortunately for his family and the mining industry, Max died suddenly at a young age.

The Bursary was intentionally established to support local students from the Far North Queensland geographic region.

The Bursary has been operating for over 20 years with many successful applicants now occupying responsible positions within the minerals industry. Funds to establish this Bursary were obtained from a very successful Heap Leaching Conference run in Cairns by the local Branch in the mid 1980's. The award is based on academic merit, the Principal's recommendation, and applicants complying with the education and geographic criteria of the operational requirements.
